Producing a microdrama series is a craft of its own. It's not "TV in short form," but its own logic of storytelling and production. A look at how a series for Snäxx comes to life.
The blueprint: around 45 episodes, feature length
A typical Snäxx series consists of about 45 episodes of 1–3 minutes each. Taken together, that adds up to roughly the length of a feature film – just split into many snackable bites. That changes everything about the script: instead of a few big acts, it needs dozens of mini-arcs, each with its own opening and its own cliffhanger.
The first five episodes decide everything
At Snäxx, the first five episodes of every series are free. That's no coincidence, but part of the dramaturgy. These episodes have to carry the show – they are the hook that decides whether someone keeps watching. That's why a disproportionate amount of work goes into those first minutes: a clear premise, an immediate conflict, a character you care about.
The first five episodes decide whether a series works. Here, every second counts.
Dual format: 9:16 and 16:9
A distinctive feature at Snäxx is the dual format. Every series is delivered in two aspect ratios: 9:16 vertical for the mobile feed and 16:9 horizontal for the big screen and TV. This can't be cropped in after the fact – it has to be considered from the start. Even during the shoot, the framing is planned for both formats, so that neither version looks like a compromise.
From shoot to platform
After the shoot comes post-production – editing, sound, color, subtitles. Because Snäxx is built on multilingualism, series are prepared for several languages. The result is a series that works just as well in the For You feed as it does on the television.
Two paths for creators
Anyone who produces their own work can collaborate with Snäxx in two ways: as a co-production together with Black Forest Studios – from development to post – or by licensing a finished series for the platform. In both cases, one rule applies: so that we can focus on serious projects, we only accept series whose production is at least 50% securely financed.
